How I Planned a 10 Day Honeymoon to South Africa For My Clients

A Journey Months in the Making

Planning luxury travel is never just about booking flights and hotels. It’s about creating an experience that feels seamless, personal, and unforgettable from the moment clients start dreaming about the trip to the moment they return home.

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to plan an incredible 10-day luxury South Africa itinerary for my clients traveling in June 2026. What started as an inquiry back in December evolved into months of collaboration, itinerary revisions, destination research, and personalized planning to create a trip that perfectly matched their travel style.

From ocean views in Cape Town to a luxury safari near Johannesburg, this itinerary combined adventure, relaxation, culture, and elevated experiences all in one journey. And after hearing about their amazing time abroad, I can confidently say this became one of my favorite itineraries I’ve planned so far.

How We First Connected

Back in December, my clients initially reached out after finding my travel planning services online. They knew they wanted to visit South Africa, but they weren’t entirely sure how to structure the trip, what areas made the most sense, or how to balance luxury experiences with sightseeing and downtime.

Like many travelers planning a long-haul international trip, they had questions about everything:

At the time, the original travel dates were actually planned for March 2026. However, after discussing weather, availability, and the safari experience they truly wanted, we eventually decided that moving the trip to June would create a much stronger overall experience — especially for safari season.

That flexibility ended up making a huge difference.

Why We Shifted the Travel Dates from March to June

One of the biggest parts of luxury travel planning is understanding when to pivot for a better experience.

Originally, the itinerary was designed around March travel dates. But throughout the planning process, we realized that June would offer several advantages:

  • Better safari visibility during the dry season

  • Cooler and more comfortable temperatures

  • Stronger luxury lodge availability

  • More ideal wildlife viewing opportunities

  • A better pacing for the overall itinerary

Instead of rushing decisions, we took our time refining the trip until everything aligned properly.

That’s something I always prioritize with clients: thoughtful planning over quick planning.

By April, after multiple revisions, hotel comparisons, flight adjustments, and destination research, we finalized the full itinerary.

The Planning Process Behind the Itinerary

One thing people don’t always see is how much collaboration goes into creating a custom luxury travel itinerary.

The first half of the itinerary focused on Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Cape Town offers such an incredible mix of experiences because travelers can enjoy:

For this portion of the trip, the goal was to create a luxurious but immersive city experience.

Their accommodations featured stunning ocean views, upscale amenities, and close access to many of Cape Town’s most iconic attractions. From the beginning, we prioritized properties that felt relaxing after long sightseeing days while still keeping them connected to the energy of the city.

A major focus during planning was pacing.

Many travelers make the mistake of overpacking their itineraries, especially when traveling internationally. Instead of creating a schedule that felt exhausting, I intentionally built in breathing room throughout the trip.

The clients traveled to Johannesburg before heading into the safari portion of the trip.

This transition was intentional because it allowed the itinerary to evolve naturally:

  • Nature and wildlife immersion second

By structuring the trip this way, the safari experience felt even more impactful.
